Sista’s Health Story: How I Turned Fear into Fuel.

Hey friends, it’s Sista here! No posts today, just some honest sharing. I’m going to open up about my journey to health and how I learned to love it along the way.

So, let me take you back to a year ago – I got some shocking news. Diabetes Type 2. I know, right? Sista loves food, but I never thought this would happen to me. I was scared, especially for my eyesight. You’ve probably noticed that my eyes are not “straight” and they mean a lot to me.

The only way out was clear: a diet, a balanced diet with more veggies, fruits and less sugar and junk food. Exercise. And I had to cook and eat less or no processed food. That was the hardest part. At first, my kitchen was a disaster and I spent so much time getting fresh ingredients and cooking. I almost gave up and just took meds.

Working out when it’s cold and rainy was no picnic either. But I wasn’t going to let fear win and I kept pushing myself.

After 2 months I finally got the hang of it. I started to cook in bulk on Sundays so I always had a yummy salad in the fridge to curb my hunger and avoid eating unhealthy stuff while making dinner. My breakfast is “savory” and no more sugar-loaded. I ditched the elevator and the car. I run every morning for 20 to 30 minutes and I’m planning to join a fitness center to get more toned because muscles are cool! Saturdays though? I treat myself and have fun with my friends.

And here’s the best part – I’m actually enjoying this new lifestyle. I feel lighter, happier and my skin is glowing. I faced my fear and tackled the problem head-on. What I’m trying to say is that our health is our greatest treasure and when a simple (but not easy) diet can fix health issues (like diabetes 2), it’s a blessing and we can change our fate with determination and… effort. The more I grow the more I realize that nothing is free, nothing is simple or easy but we can often be the heroes of our own story, especially our health story.

With this message, I really hope to inspire you to get blood tests if you haven’t done so in the last 2/3 years and take care of yourself. You are the most important person for yourself and for those who love you.
