Children and economic crises: we need to talk about it

The current economic and inflationary crisis is a cause for concern for many families with children, and it is essential to remember that children often have a better understanding of the family’s financial situation than many parents might believe. In low-income families, it is common for children to experience anxiety, guilt, and envy due to financial stress.

Since children’s ability to interpret information is still limited, it is important for us adults to talk about money with children, showing that we take responsibility for the family’s financial situation and that children should not bear the burden of the family’s economic situation. How? By openly embracing social initiatives for low-income families without “shame” and, despite the challenging situation we are all facing right now, instilling faith and confidence in children, giving the younger generations hope for the future.
